I am happy to announce that our sustainable garden is finally starting to produce! This is our first year implementing a sustainable garden at our new rental location and we intend on growing in all seasons for as long as we can reasonably stay at this location.
We have utilized such sustainable practices as:
- Conservation Tillage
- Intercropping
- Companion Planting
- Food Waste Composting
- Urine Composting
- Cover Crops and Soil Fertility Management
- Organic Pesticides
And here are the results so far!
Unfortunately, this year's torrential rains and proceeding blight took out most of our potatoes and tomatoes - just like nearly everyone else in the high country, but the few that made it are producing quite nicely.
What is producing so far:
- Basil
- Beans
- Beets
- Carrots
- Garlic
- Lettuces
- Potatoes
- Radishes
- Sugar Snap Peas
- Tomatoes
- Yellow Squash
- Zucchini Squash
Still on its way:
- Beans
- Broccoli
- Cabbage
- Chickpeas
- Corn
- Eggplant
- Ginger
- Mint
- Onion
- Peppers
- Pumpkin
- Sunflowers
