This morning was the first day that I seriously considered going back to shampoo, but I stuck it out for you, dear readers. It took a considerably longer amount of time before the water sufficiently saturated my hair in the shower this morning and I spent over 10 minutes rinsing and re-rinsing my hair today until my hair was acceptable. At first, it all seemed to clump like the way strands of an old dirty mop all seem to bind together. and it all kind of flopped together as I combed my fingers through it.
I think the takeaway today was that it becomes considerably more important to shower or rinse your hair daily if you aren't going to use shampoo - and that's exactly what I neglected to do. You see, yesterday was an eventful day. We spent MLK weekend down in Asheville. Yesterday, we were all recovering from a long night of karaoke the night before. The combination of a musty bar and later, sleeping on couches, probably didn't help the matter. But yesterday ended up being a long unintended mission to get back to Boone. You see, we locked the keys in the car after Brunch at Denny's and we had to wait for the locksmith (but I swear, I was only just another 10 minutes away from wiggling that metal piece I found down by the stream below Denny's enough to open the automatic door locks of Shari's Jeep). And once we got to Boone, I was simply too exhausted to do much more than hit the pillow...hence 48-hour matted mess.
Nevertheless, my hair really feels no different that it did on Day 4. So as long as a shower remains part of the daily routine, it seems that forgoing shampoo is permissible.
So, one more week to this little experiment and then I'm going to give my hair a thorough shampooing to see what difference it makes.
Pictures!
Here's an early morning, just woke up and rolled out of bed picture - at this point, it's been over 24 hours since my last shower. Notice the hair doesn't look greasy and is still fairly feathery. This is the best I could muster at 7 in the morning. |
