- My hair isn't oily. In fact, it's still nice and light after each wash, though it definitely isn't nearly as feathery as before. I even worked out for about 2 hours last night and worked up a good sweat. Even still, my hair feels no different than the day before.
- So far, no one has seemed to notice. Or at least, no one has said anything, even at my 7am - 4pm desk job.
- Contrary to expected, I actually spend MORE time on my hair each day than I did while I was shampooing. I usually give my hair a thorough, saturating rinse and then finger comb through my hair for about two minutes under hot water. This still removes some, but definitely not all of the natural sebum that builds up throughout the day.
- I've started washing my face, especially along the hairline - for fear that the extra oils may clog pores and cause breakouts. This is a good thing, because I should have probably been washing my face this entire time anyway. Thus far, I haven't experienced any extra breakouts nor is my forehead any oilier than before.
- No need for hair gel! I haven't used the stuff for years, but I don't need any now anyway. The natural oils make styling incredibly simple. Just wet it, set it, and forget it! After a shower, my hair seems to be naturally hydrophobic and it all naturally spikes straight up after a shower - and if I don't do a thing with it, it mostly just stays that way.
Some observations for other people who may want to go shampoo-free:
- Save for the most dedicated au-naturale among us, this probably wouldn't be a good idea for someone with longer than shoulder length hair. It likely would just take too much time to saturate and comb through your hair each day to keep the hair manageable.
- People with overly oily hair and teens that are prone to breakouts may not want to try this. The extra oils on your hypersensitive face would likely cause more breakouts.
- I couldn't see this working in countries that don't practice warm-water bathing. The warm water helps strip some of the natural oils that your hair produces each day. Without the warm water, I'd think that your hair would become an oily mess in a hurry.
And that's all I have for now. Next update (with pictures!) on Sunday!
